Project: Organic School Gardens (Phase 2), duration March 2019 – May 2020
Given the great success of phase 1 of this project, the Japanese embassy decided this year to finance another 3 school gardens with aquaponic systems. The St. Ignatius schools in Paramaribo, Shri Rudra in Wanica and OS Jarikaba in Saramacca were selected for this phase.
The activities of phase 2 are the same as phase 1 and the main objective remains the same, namely:
Set up 3 organic school gardens with aquaponic systems at 3 primary schools and thereby introduce children to a healthy, safe and environmentally friendly way of growing food. The children are also introduced to the concept of a healthier lifestyle and learn to produce their own food.
The teachers actively participate in the project activities and have already laid out their gardens.
The activities last until May next year.
